is situated in the extreme north west part of Paschim Medinipur, West Bengal,
India, habitated mostly by poor, down trodden tribal people. Jhargram is
connected by South Eastern railway with Kolkata and other parts of India.
Jhargram is also accessible by road ways. It is connected with NH-6 by state
highway about 15 km North of LODHASULI.
Geographically Jhargram Lions Eye Hospital is about half kilometer north of
Jhargram railway station at village Gaighata.
There was no eye hospital in this west part of the district to serve the poor
patients suffering from eye diseases.
Lions Clubs International has given priority to eradicate preventable and
curable blindness and other eye related diseases in the name of “Sight First
Project”. Lions Club of Jhargram took this as their prime project and
established this Eye Hospital with the help of, donations from local lion
hearted people. Lion members grant from Lions Clubs International Foundation (LCIF)
and Govt. of West Bengal, India.
